As an aspiring artist and recent graduate from OSU with a bachelor’s degree in Fine
Arts I am still exploring with many different styles of painting. I generally work with oil paints, pencil or water color. My
current work reflects my interest in the expressive potentials of
figurative painting, abstractions and landscapes.
The human body has always been a
personal subject of intrigue as it is a familiar form- easy for all
to interpret. When confronted with a figure, we automatically assume
emotion, narrative or some sort of dialog. Like no other subject matter, the figure has the ability to speak to the viewer in an extremely intimate manner.
While not quite as
familiar as the human body, abstractions and landscapes do have the potential to
place the viewer in a space. This space, suggestive or literal, has the power to evoke some
sort of memory or include them in a personal experience of my own. I
generally develope form and context with thin layers of paint in conjunction with delicate and expressive line. Personal influences include (but are not
limited to) Austrian expressionist Egon Schiele, Alice Neel and Helen
Frankenthaler.
